Writing Poetry

As a small group, we play with words, write poetry on specific issues - sometimes on things which are in the news, challenge ourselves with different poetry forms: haikus, cinquains, sonnets and others. We share techniques and experiences for the wide range of different styles.

Shared Emotions

There are poems that have, literally, changed our lives, because they have changed the way we look and listen to the world; there are poems that, on repeated reading, have gradually revealed to us areas of our own experience.

Poetry as your own expression

It is a profound insight that enables a poet to idealize reality and to see things or situations from a particular, and possibly different, angle. They have the ability to express their feelings in such a way as to delight or challenge the readers.

Group Leader's comments

"Most of us have a natural and instinctive ability to write poems, but often this innate skill requires practice. Sharing with others will give you a lot of confidence whether you are an absolute beginner or if you have already written many poems. Please join us to share. You will be very welcome."
