The activity is called "social cycling" because the emphasis is on getting together to enjoy the pleasure and sense of well-being that cycling brings. It is about enjoying being out on the open road under ones own steam. We take our time and go at the pace of the slowest, with plenty of rest stops; we also spend some time over tea/coffee either during the ride or at the end.>
All skill levels
The rides are between 10 and 20 miles in distance, on quiet roads, but occasionally also doing off-road rides. To get a variety of runs and to find suitable terrain (less hilly and more traffic-free) we have different start points, mostly within Clydesdale but occasionally going further afield.

Benefits of cycling
Cycling is the third most popular recreational activity in the UK. An estimated 3.1 million people ride a bicycle each month. It's a low-impact type of exercise, so it's easier on your joints than running or other high-impact aerobic activities. But it still helps you get into shape whatever your age.

"The group is suitable for people recently returned to cycling, as well as more seasoned 'pedallers'. Shorter rides can be arranged to help initiate newcomers. Arrangement for transporting bicycle and rider to the start can be shared. Electric-assisted bicycles are now widely available and are a great help on hills and for one's ability to go further.
